Speaking and Workshops
The Heart of Listening
Communication problems at work are a perennial challenge often leading to conflict. Skillful listening is an essential component of effective communication. By practicing the art of listening, space is created for clarity, understanding and trust which opens the communication process. In this interactive session, participants will become adept at focused listening and learn how to ask powerful, clarifying questions – both foundational skills for listening. Enhanced listening and communication are key results.
Say No to More: Value Centered Choices
In this fast-paced world, balancing the demands of work and life is a major stressor. This session focuses on clarifying choices around priorities and challenging assumptions that lead to saying YES when you want to say NO to more commitments and responsibilities. Participants will learn and practice boundary-setting strategies based on their values, design a plan to implement these strategies and commit to accountable action in order to move toward a more balanced, healthy life.
Don’t Wait - Ask for What You Want
Recent studies show that many women don’t feel confident to ask for what they want, resulting in over commitment, lack of recognition, missed career opportunities and/or financial loss. Developing the skill of effective negotiation is key to getting what you need and deserve. It takes confidence, clarity and practice. This session provides practical skill-building opportunities that will teach basic interest-based negotiation techniques that highlight women’s strengths. Participants will leave with new tools to ask for they want in their lives.
Artful Acknowledgement
Everyone wants to be acknowledged for their contribution. Differing from recognition that highlights what people do, acknowledgement looks beneath the action to the internal character of the person. It is a powerful way of honoring another that has a lasting impact. In this interactive session, participants will learn to differentiate between surface compliments, recognition for tasks and acknowledging personal character. They will practice the skill of acknowledgement and witness the impact it has on the recipient. Applying this skill will enrich your relationships at work and home.
Change Your Life from A Bad Country Song to A Lyrical Ballad
Are you a “multi-tasking, get it done at all costs, people pleasing, my needs last” kind of woman? No this is not a bad country song – this is really your life. Most women find themselves in one or more of these common traps leading to overwhelm, frustration and stress. There is another way. You can make different choices that will empower you to take charge of your life and stop this tired, old song. In this session participants will identify their own traps, explore options for changing old patterns and design an action plan to break free from them. This interactive process provides participants with a skill set that can be applied to any life situation.
Discovering the Leader Within
In the struggle to get work done, leadership often turns to management. When this happens there is a shift in the impact on those being led, which can result in unwanted or undesirable results. This workshop focuses on strengthening leadership capacity. By looking within to connect to deeply held values and the behaviors that support them, participants will discover the essence of their unique leadership style. Building on these core capacities, participants will learn ways to effectively engage others to accomplish shared goals. Group interaction will offer opportunities for feedback as participants demonstrate their leadership skills.
It’s Me Time
As helping professionals we often put our own needs last which results in feeling depleted, frustrated and unappreciated. Studies show that care givers who practice healthy self care have fewer signs of burnout and maintain a more positive attitude. Challenging the myth that focusing on you is selfish, this session is designed to inspire you to take better care of yourself. During this workshop, participants will: identify fresh ways to nurture physical, mental and emotional well being and learn simple centering practices for everyday use. At completion you will have a “Me Time” plan ready for implementation.
